You’re looking at the proof

This site is built the same way yours would be, and I publish its numbers rather than ask you to take my word for it. Measured on 18 October 2026 with Google’s own tool.

Google speed score on a phone
98/100
to load on slow mobile data (simulated)
2.1 s
accessibility score
100/100
search engine setup
100/100

Before anything goes live, automatic checks test every page on a phone, a tablet and a laptop, check every colour is readable, and run 39 tests on the contact form, including what happens if email is down. Yours gets the same. See every measurement, and what isn’t perfect.

And two complete sites you can try

  • A plumber in Cape Town

    Tidemark Plumbing

The pages a trade business needs, with prices up front and a quote form that works properly on a phone.

  • An online coffee shop

    Lantern Hill Coffee Roasters

A working shop: six coffees in three sizes and six grinds, a cart, and checkout through PayFast.

The businesses are made up; the forms and checkout work. What each one shows, and how they measure up.

Not ready to start a project?

Send me your current website and I’ll check it for free. Within one working day you get a short email from me: how fast it is on a phone, how it looks to Google, and the first three things I’d fix.

No obligation and no mailing list. If it turns out your site is fine, I’ll say so.

Free, no obligation. Within one working day.

The usual problem

The usual sequence: a spreadsheet becomes the system of record, then three spreadsheets, then a shared drive nobody trusts. Everyone knows it is fragile, but replacing it looks expensive, so it survives for years, quietly costing hours a week and losing data at every handoff.

Who it suits

  • Teams running a core process on spreadsheets that keep breaking
  • Businesses paying for SaaS that does 20% of what they need
  • Anyone whose customers need to log in and do something

If an off-the-shelf product genuinely covers your process, buy it. Custom software earns its cost when the way you work is part of what makes you better than competitors.

What you get

All of this is in the price.

  • Custom application built around your actual process
  • Authentication with roles and permissions
  • Dedicated Postgres database, designed properly
  • An admin area your team can use day to day
  • Automated tests over the parts that matter
  • Deployment pipeline so changes ship safely
  • Written documentation and a handover session

Built with Next.js, TypeScript, Postgres, Supabase Auth.

Questions people ask

How much does a custom web application cost?

From R22,000 for a focused application with logins, a database and an admin area. South African agencies typically quote R90,000 to R150,000 for comparable scope. The price is fixed and agreed before work begins, after a short scoping conversation.

Can you replace the spreadsheets we currently run on?

Often, yes. It’s one of the most common reasons a business needs custom software. The work starts by mapping what the spreadsheets actually do, including the unwritten rules people carry in their heads, and then building the smallest system that covers it properly.

What happens if we need changes after launch?

Fourteen days of fixes are included. Beyond that, changes are quoted individually, or covered by a care plan. Because you own the code and the repository, you are also free to take it to any other developer.

How do you handle our data and security?

Data lives in a Postgres database in your own account, with row-level security so records are only readable by the people entitled to see them. Secrets are never committed to the repository. Where you have POPIA obligations, the data model is designed around them from the start.

Got something in mind?

A couple of sentences is enough. I’ll tell you honestly whether I’m the right person for it, and if I am, what it will cost and how long it will take.
